Online business people can choose to host their own websites. It is easy to do and a great way to save a little money for the small start-up company. To host your own website you will need a high-speed Internet connection and a computer that you can use just for that purpose. The computer will need a minimum of 64 RAM, 8GB hard disk, and fast processing power, a web server and great antivirus protection.

To host your own website you will have to be willing to sacrifice some time. You will have to do your own technical support. You will also have to back up your data for yourself. These are the two areas where the web hosting companies usually would help you out, but as you are doing everything by yourself, that load is on you.

The next step is to obtain a great domain. Remember that a great domain is one that is easy to remember, easy to say and is related to your field of business. For example, a bead seller may want to choose the domain name beadseller.com. If that is not possible, then try for beadseller.net. People tend to respect a dot com more than they do other domain endings. Once you have chosen your domain name then you need to purchase that name. Many companies are willing to help you purchase your domain name. Look for coupons that will make this purchase less expensive.

Your next step is to use a freeware program to tell the web server how to get to the website you have placed on the computer. Your next step is to contact your Internet provider and ask for a static Internet address. This is one that does not change. If this is not possible or if this costs too much then you need to obtain a router that will automatically update when the provider changes your Internet address.

The next step is to develop the material for your website. There are several free templates available on the Internet. One important point to remember is that using a template may make your site look too much like other people’s sites. The online businessperson needs their sites to look professional and unique. It needs to be a site that people will remember.

Hosting your own website is an easy process requiring only a decent computer and your website material. You must be willing to do your own technical support including backing up your data.
