Mobile Numbers to starts with 8 from now

The pace of growth of India’s mobile phone use is clear from the fact that the department of telecommunications has exhausted cell phone numbers beginning with 9. But Soon, mobile phone companies are expected to issue cell phone numbers beginning with 8 as the first number. The cellular operators will hereinafter get the 95 sub-level number, which is originally meant for STD or trunk calls, as a follow up of DoT’s instruction to invalidate the 95 from the landline operation.

DoT is on the process of allocating nearly 10 crore numbers for the need, out of which 50% will be kept reserve by DoT itself. TRAI estimates that as of now, there are 415 million cellular subscribers which was 277 million during the same period last year. Anticipating the ongoing growth rateand demand, DoT is contemplating to launch 11 digit series.

How to add Google Analytics code to wordpress

You may add the Google Analytics code to you site either manually or by using a plugin any choice. There are many plugins that can help you do this, but the best way i have selected is very simple one, that get the job done smooth and fine.

Adding Google Analytics manually through wordpress

1. Login wordpress admin panel
2. Goto Appearance > Editor (theme editor)
3. Select the footer.php or index.php
4. Find the </body> html tag
5. Copy and page the Google Analytics code before the </body> tag.
6. Don’t forget to click Update File to save changes.

The only problem with the manual installation is that if you interchange wordpress themes you will loose your  Google Analytics code. That is why it is better to use Google Analytics code within a plugin. And this  plugin is a simple to use with no distraction of work.

Adding Google Analytics with the Header-Footer plugin

1. Download and install the Header-Footer plugin
2. Goto Settings > Header-Footer
3. Cut and paste the Google tracking code in the bottom footer textbox.
4. Enjoy.

What is Bandwidth

Definition:

In computer networks, bandwidth is often used as a synonym for data transfer rate – the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second). This kind of bandwidth is usually expressed in bits (of data) per second (bps). Occasionally, it’s expressed as bytes per second (Bps). A modem that works at 57,600 bps hastwice the bandwidth of a modem that works at 28,800 bps. In general, a link with a high bandwidth is one that may be able to carry enough information to sustain the succession of images in a video presentation.

It should be remembered that a real communications path usually consists of a succession of links, each with its own bandwidth. If one of these is much slower than the rest, it is said to be a bandwidth bottleneck.

BandWidth Explained

Most hosting companies offer a variety of bandwidth options in their plans. So exactly what is bandwidth as it relates to web hosting? Put simply, bandwidth is the amount of traffic that is allowed to occur between your web site and the rest of the internet. The amount of bandwidth a hosting company can provide is determined by their network connections, both internal to their data center and external to the public internet.

Network Connectivity

The internet, in the most simplest of terms, is a group of millions of computers connected by networks. These connections within the internet can be large or small depending upon the cabling and equipment that is used at a particular internet location. It is the size of each network connection that determines how much bandwidth is available. For example, if you use a DSL connection to connect to the internet, you have 1.54 Mega bits (Mb) of bandwidth. Bandwidth therefore is measured in bits (a single 0 or 1). Bits are grouped in bytes which form words, text, and other information that is transferred between your computer and the internet.

If you have a DSL connection to the internet, you have dedicated bandwidth between your computer and your internet provider. But your internet provider may have thousands of DSL connections to their location. All of these connection aggregate at your internet provider who then has their own dedicated connection to the internet (or multiple connections) which is much larger than your single connection. They must have enough bandwidth to serve your computing needs as well as all of their other customers. So while you have a 1.54Mb connection to your internet provider, your internet provider may have a 255Mb connection to the internet so it can accommodate your needs and up to 166 other users (255/1.54).

Indiatimes launches new social networking iTimes

Indiatimes is the most popular Internet and mobile value-added services destination for the global Indian. So it’s been well over a year and a half in the making, and the in the meantime the bloom appears to have gone off the social networking boom in India: finally Times Internet (Indiatimes) has soft-launched its social networking site – itimes.com.

Take a look around here (screencap). itimes users are given an email address separate from Indiatimes. Considering the media push around Indiatimes Mail, I wonder why they went ahead with a login and email separate from Indiatimes. A screencap of the profile page here. There’s also a gaming zone, much like Indiatimes has a gaming zone. The site has blogs, but again – what about O3? itimes has a classifieds section/marketplace, similar to YoList.

You can invite your friends from popular email clients like Gmail, AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.

Social Networking sites are one of the best way to increase your blog traffic by creating new friends and sharing your information. There are many social media sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Facebook, twitter, linkedin which are very popular. I just registered for this site to check the features.
