Tips To Protect Yourself from Online Identity Theft

Online identity theft has really become a one f the major topic nowadays. However you must know that what it really means. It is an act of stealing someone identity and then using it for your own benefit. However you must know that it is not according to law. If you will do it you can be punished. Lots of online identity theft cases have been in the scene since the launch of internet. And we must try to defend/avoid it.

I must say that people have really become careless about their personal information. You might find any pop up menu once you use the internet. They ask about some of your personal information pretending that they are from some very big company. You do not pay much attention and provide the information to them. I must say that if you will do this then you will definitely find yourself being affected by the identity theft.

The people are so free about their personal information that they at once provide the information once they are asked. However they do not feel that what can be done with that information. You must know that if somebody gets more information about you then they can use it in visa/ master card account, departmental store, a gas credit card or any other type of account. This can really prove to be very fatal for you.

I would like to give you some tips which you should keep in mind if you want to protect yourself from online identity theft. They are as follows:

1. Keep your password safe : You should not use simple passwords. You must know that if you want to be safe then you should select some password which nobody can think of. You should also make sure that you use proper encryption standard to build your password. For example you can use add by three encryption algorithm if you are building the password for your personal email. However you will have to use much superior standard if you want to select password for your company email. But you should now know that you can no more agree with such dual standard because your personal information is equally important.

2. Never say yes to popup screens:  Never try to give your personal information when asked. You will really be the looser if you will do that. You should understand that you might be cheated. Hence make sure that you do not provide your personal information before knowing whom you are talking to. What I really mean is authentication. Proper authentication must be followed before you give them the personal information.

3.Never say yes to online lotto : Never try to register your persona;l information on such site named lotto or lottery winning etc. They send message that you have won lots of million rupees and register it as fast as possible. Please dont do that if you enter that your personal identity will be stolen and missused

I must say that you should really keep this in mind if you want to be safe from the online identity theft.

Time and again we are being warned about how much personal information we provide other people, especially those that we have just met online or even personally. Still, the number of fraud and identity theft victims are on the rise.
I also read another interesting piece on fraud at:

This is why we are reminded time and again to be vigilant and have our own means of safeguarding our information and identity. There are people who are out to get social security numbers, credit or medical billings to access your private information and use it to their advantage.

ID theft can now be done via the world wide web. This is how crafty fraudulent minds have become – in their attempt to get any useful information from people. This is why we need to be on the alert at all times and try not to divulge too much private information to others.
I would also want to share another article that I read that others might also find helpful at:

When we safeguard our personal documents, we can do this in an eco-friendly manner by having our old mail, credit billings or copies of our personal files shredded to be properly disposed or be used for other purposes.
